Raportin historia
It is not true that you need to continue the action if you misclick. You can simply click on another action (either card or action square) to change your action.
The action card with squares is how the actual board game works and is much better aesthetically than a panel of buttons.

If the click surface is too small, how about expanding the click surface so you can click on the adjacent text as well as the box? That should help and won't change the aesthetics.
