Raportin historia
It is unusual to trigger this problem, but it a possible way to make your helper actions take effect without performing a valid main action. In the specific case of the game I was playing, it allowed a die to be used, which should not have been used, triggering a 9pt helper action.
The UI still allows you to buy an existing helper, deducts the cost from your money, animates a 2nd helper moving onto the already-occupied spot.
In my case I wasted an action and 2 florins "repurchasing" the grey +3 florins helper. Can't locate the game/move for sure, but it might have been 137340449 Move 70. If that isn't it, you can very easily verify this yourselves in two turns. Or let me know if you want me to recreate it.
(The manual insinuates but never directly says you can't stack helpers, the UI highlighting implies it's a legal action, and a few other games do actually allow stacking helpers - so it's misleading.)
