When I look at my ELO rating I can only guess what my skill level is in relation to the rest of the players. Adding a percentile score would improve this greatly. Basically it shows which percentage of players that have a worse rating than you in this game. For example: the 75th percentile means you are better than 75% of all players that have a rating in this game. To calculate the percentile score you need two things: your rank in that particular game and the total number of players with a rating in that game.
The formula is ((total-rank)/total).
Here are some examples:
#250 of 250 players = 0th percentile (everybody is better than you)
#250 of 500 players = 50th percentile (you're totally average)
#250 of 2500 players = 90th percentile (you're better than 90% of the players)
#250 of 25000 players = 99th percentile (you're in the top 1% of players) -
