NekonyancerThe board is filled with stacks of checkers. Half belong to you, and half belong to your opponent. The number on each stack indicates how many checkers are in it. [green]At the beginning of the game, all the stacks are size 1, but that will change![/green]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

NekonyancerEach turn, [red]*these two dice*[/red] will be rolled. The maximum value on each die is equal to *half* the length of the game board. [blue]In this case, we're playing on an 8x8 board, so each die has a maximum value of 4![/blue] After rolling, the active player can then use the dice to move their stacks - one stack per die.3dice_square_0

NekonyancerGood! All of the stack's possible destinations are now [blue]*highlighted.*[/blue] As you can see, stacks can only move *orthogonally* - that is, horizontally or vertically. The distance they can move is equal to the numbers shown on the dice. [blue]We rolled 1 and 3, so we can move 1 or 3 spaces to the right or down![/blue]1clickable_square_1_6

NekonyancerRight now, every one of our selected checker's [blue]*possible destinations*[/blue] is already occupied by one of our opponent's checkers. But that's okay. If your stack is *equal* to or *larger* than an opponent's stack, you can move onto it, *capturing it!*2clickable_square_2_6

Nekonyancer*Great!* We removed one of our opponent's stacks from the board! That used up one of our dice (the 3). Normally, we'd have to take *another action* for our other die (the 1), but only one action can be taken on the first turn of the game. [red]Now it's our opponent's turn. NekonyancerOkay, next turn! We rolled *4* and *1.* [red]*Let's start by selecting this checker.*[/red]1clickable_square_2_7

NekonyancerWith a 4 and a 1, we can move this stack to [blue]*any of these spaces,*[/blue] most of which are occupied by your own stacks. [green]Whenever you move onto your own stack, the stacks will *combine* into one larger stack![/green]1clickable_square_4_5

Nekonyancer*Great!* Our stack of 1 checker moved onto our other stack of 1, leaving us with a [blue]*stack of 2.*[/blue] Remember, stacks can only be captured if the opponent uses a stack that is *equal* to or *larger* than the targeted stack. So by combining our stacks, we're making it harder for our opponent to capture them!1clickable_square_2_3

NekonyancerThat was one action, but we have to use *both* of our actions every turn. Passing is not allowed! [red]*Let's start by selecting this stack!*[/red]2clickable_square_2_3

Nekonyancer*Okay!* We moved onto an unoccupied space. We didn't capture an opponent's stack nor combine with another of our own. [red]*Now select the same checker again.*[/red]1clickable_square_1_7

NekonyancerLooks like we can move [blue]*two spaces down,*[/blue] as normal, but we're [red]*not allowed to move here!*[/red] That's because if we do, we will have used both of our actions on moves to *unoccupied spaces.* You may not do this *unless it is your only legal move.*1clickable_square_3_7

NekonyancerThis is something you should avoid! !!! [red]if you are forced to use both moves on unoccupied spaces, you must then remove one checker from your largest stack![/red] !!! If you have several stacks that are all the largest, you must choose one of them to remove a checker from.2clickable_square_3_7

NekonyancerIn very rare situations, you may not be able to take any actions at all on your turn. In this case, you must remove *two* of your checkers from your largest stack/stacks.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment
