WirewyrmIn this game, *each player chooses one of these 4 actions during their turn*. They then get to perform that action (denoted by the icons at the top of each summary panel). Wirewyrm[red]Plant[/red] (green): The player who chooses this action gets to play up to 2 cards from their hand into their [blue]Tableau[/blue] by paying the required [blue]Soil[/blue]. Then, they will draw 4 cards and keep 1 of them (the other 3 get discarded). All other players can play up to 1 card from their hand into their [blue]Tableau[/blue], then draw and keep 1 card.4ea-area-player-846953856535d615db19800
Wirewyrm[tip] [blue]Soil[/blue] is the basic currency in Earth. It is generally the only cost of playing cards into the [blue]Tableau[/blue], and all cards (other than the starter cards) come with a [blue]Soil[/blue] cost, shown on the top left of the card. Wirewyrm[red]Compost[/red] (red): The player choosing this action gets 5 [blue]Soil[/blue] and adds 2 cards from the top of the deck into their [blue]Compost[/blue] heap. [tip] Each card in the [blue]Compost[/blue] heap is worth 1 point at the end of the game. Other players can choose to *either* gain 2 [blue]Soil[/blue] *or* add 2 cards from the deck to their [blue]Compost[/blue].6ea-area-player-846953856535d615db19800
Wirewyrm[red]Water[/red] (blue): The player choosing this action gains 2 [blue]Soil[/blue], then places up to 6 [blue]Sprouts[/blue] (represented by cubes) onto cards in their [blue]Tableau[/blue]. They may distribute the cubes in any way among the empty slots, denoted by hollow squares on the cards. Wirewyrm[tip] Like [blue]Compost, Sprouts[/blue] are also worth 1 point each at the end of the game. Another point to note is that [blue]Sprouts[/blue] and [blue]Compost[/blue] are secondary currencies, needed for the activation of some abilities. Wirewyrm[red]Grow[/red] (yellow): Choosing this action lets the player draw and keep 4 cards from the deck, then add 2 [blue]Growth[/blue] distributed among the cards in their [blue]Tableau[/blue]. Other players can choose to *either* draw and keep 2 cards from the deck *or* gain 2 [blue]Growth[/blue]. Wirewyrm[blue]Growth[/blue] is represented by the three concentric circle symbol, or round wooden pieces placed on the middle right side of each card. Similar to [blue]Sprouts, Growth[/blue] can only be placed on cards that have available space. This will be explained in greater detail later.10ea-area-player-846953856535d615db19800
WirewyrmAfter carrying out the main action, each player may also activate every card ability that is of the same colour as the rectangles in the middle of each action summary panel! The card abilities in your [blue]Tableau[/blue] will be activated from left to right, from top to bottom row. WirewyrmFor example, this climate card (Subpolar Oceanic) has 2 abilities, a red and a blue ability. This means that every time anyone chooses the red [red]Compost[/red] action, the ability on the left of this card (gain 1 Sprout) would activate, and likewise for the blue ability whenever anyone takes the blue [red]Water[/red] action.12ea-card-id-530326535d615db19800

WirewyrmAs for this climate card (Mediterranean Hot Summer), it has a yellow ability. This means that it will activate whenever you take the [red]Grow[/red] action. !!! Take note of the card text though, it says that *you* have to choose the action in order to activate it. If some other player chose the action, it would not activate even if you carry out the diminished version of the action.14ea-card-id-530316535d615db19800
WirewyrmNow might be a good time to explain the other symbols on the card. On the top right of the card are [blue]Habitat[/blue] symbols. They mostly affect end game scoring conditions, and come in 4 types: [blue]Sunny, Wet, Rocky[/blue], and [blue]Cold[/blue]. Mediterranean Hot Summer is [blue]Sunny[/blue] and [blue]Wet[/blue], as you can see.15ea-card-id-530316535d615db19800
WirewyrmOn the top left of the card, there is a blank space where the [blue]Soil[/blue] cost of a card would usually be. Below that is a leaf symbol with a number that denotes how many points this card is worth at the end of the game, if it's in your [blue]Tableau[/blue] or [blue]Board[/blue]. WirewyrmLastly, *black abilities* are *one-off* abilities that trigger when the card is played. In other words, the island cards determine your starting resources. Metis Shoal lets you draw 7 cards to start the game off. However, you will then have to discard 4 of them into your [blue]Compost[/blue], denoted by the hand symbol with two circular arrows around it. WirewyrmOkay, let's start the game now by picking an island and a climate! The tutorial is slightly buggy, so I will pick *Metis Shoal* and *Subpolar Oceanic* on your behalf.18ea-card-id-429226535d615dbdd400

WirewyrmOh, but before that, here's an ability colour we have not seen yet! *Brown abilities* are *passive effects* that are always active. Most of these are *end-game scoring* abilities such as the one here. !!! WirewyrmIn every round, the first player starts with the Active Player token. They must choose one of the basic Actions to start the round. Once all players have taken that action, the Active Player token is passed to the next player, who then chooses a new Action to continue the round. WirewyrmThis process repeats until all players have had a chance to be the Active Player. The next round then begins, starting again from the First Player (ie. the First Player remains the same from the start to the end of the game). WirewyrmThe meanings of the other symbols here will become apparent by the time you reach the end of your first game. For now, let's focus on the blue Paw symbol near the bottom right that says "0/4". WirewyrmNow let's have a closer look at the [blue]Fauna[/blue] cards and how they score. As you can see, there are 4 [blue]Fauna[/blue] cards on the [blue]Fauna board[/blue], each with a leaf track and a "10" next to each leaf. The leaf track is for players to place their player token (represented by leaf tokens corresponding to player colour) once they have achieved the [blue]Fauna[/blue] conditions.5ea-fauna-board6535d8046063900
WirewyrmPlayers place their tokens on the leaf track from top to bottom, in order of who achieves the conditions first, then gain points equal to the value of the number next to that leaf. In a *Beginner game, all leaves carry the same point value (10)*, so there is no advantage to fulfilling the [blue]Fauna[/blue] conditions first. *On other difficulties, the points decrease down the track.*6ea-fauna-board6535d8046063900

WirewyrmIn the middle of the [blue]Fauna board[/blue], there is a small 4 x 4 grid with a "7" on it. This denotes that *the first player to complete their [blue]Tableau[/blue] will gain 7 bonus points.* At higher difficulties, the [blue]Fauna board[/blue] will also include 2 [blue]Ecosystem[/blue] cards. WirewyrmIf you do not max out the [blue]Growth[/blue] on a card, each [blue]Growth[/blue] token will be worth one point at the end of the game. If the [blue]Growth[/blue] of a card is maxed out at the end of the game, you will gain points equal to the number in white instead. WirewyrmLastly, there are 2 instant actions that you can take at any time in the game as long as you're not in the middle of resolving another action or ability.
