It may not look like much, just a couple of command hubs orbiting around that axis thing there, but give us 5 days and we'll have it up and running or my name isn't Snagglebart Hottle.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

Scribal*Chimera Station* is a customizable worker placement game for 2-4 players. Over 5 rounds, you'll build the station and grow your workforce (in more ways than one). The builder with the most points wins! [blue][tip] We recommend completing this 58 step tutorial on a large screened device.[/blue]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalOur opponent is the first player so we get to choose our team of workers first. Looking at these options, I can almost hear Fairuza Balk whispering "We are the weirdos, mister." It's almost as though it were preordained that we would be represented by an alien that is its own lunch bag! Click on the [blue]*Weirdos*[/blue].4chs_team_weirdos

ScribalOur opponent has chosen to be represented by the *Brainiacs*. Oh, I bet they think they're so smart.1player_name_96564609

ScribalLet's chose our starting resources. The union contract says we have to feed our workers every day and it takes capital to build the station. Let's look at the options we have! On the left, we have 2 coins and the tentacle component. In the middle, we have 3 coins and the leaf component. On the right we have 4 coins and 2 food.2chs_starting_resources_item_1

ScribalWe'll look more closely at the components later in this tutorial, but in the beginning of the game, each component can be purchased for at least 2 coins while food is free (aside from the worker you need to place). Let's take the tile that gives us 3 coins and the leaf component. Click [red]*the middle tile*[/red].3chs_starting_resources_item_1

ScribalOur opponent starts, so let's see what they do!1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalOur opponent chose the *Constructor*, so they'll be able to build a [red]*module*[/red] in the [green]*Reactor*[/green]. I wonder what they'll build?1chs_hex_interact_Default_8_8

ScribalOur opponent purchased *Generic Genetics* for 3 coins and placed it on a spot on the board that gave them a build bonus of 2 coins. They gained 2 points for building the module. [blue][tip] Everyone starts with 10 points.[/blue]1chs_module_interact_5

ScribalOur opponent chose to move to the tile they built and paid 1 coin to chose a *brain* upgrade. [blue][tip] They could have chosen any of the 4 upgrades.[/blue] 1chs_worker_head_6

ScribalIt's our turn. Instead of building a new module, let's use one of the other spots on the main board. Let's go to the *Refinery* to refine. . . something? Don't worry about what we're refining. It'll give us 3 coins. First, select your worker and then click on [red]*the Refinery*[/red].2chs_worker_body_4

ScribalLet's build a module! Select a worker and click on the [red]*Constructor*[/red].1chs_hex_interact_Default_8_8

ScribalThere are 40 unique tiles in the game and we can't go over every one of them in this tutorial. If you hover over each module in the reactor, you should be able to get a pretty good understanding of what they do. When you're done looking at them, click continue.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalIf you looked through the available modules, you may already have a good understanding of the iconography, but let's look at the *Tanning Salon*.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

The *Tanning Salon* costs 4 coins, earns you 3 victory points, and will give different things depending on the upgrades your worker has on it and the number of empty spaces in the reactor.3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalThe *Tanning Salon* won't give us much benefit, right now, so let's look at another option. I think the best way to move this tutorial along is to build the *Medical Bay*. Click on the [red]*Medical Bay*[/red] and then click Continue. Step 16/584chs_worker_head_2

ScribalWhen we build a module, we have to place it adjacent to the modules already on the board. BGA has outlined every valid placement space. Click on the spot to the left of our opponent's worker. ScribalCovering that icon gives us a component of our choice. Our opponent already has brains, so we'll be able to see those in action. For now, click [red]*Claws*[/red].1select_component_claws

ScribalWhen you build a module, you will almost always have the option to move your worker to that location and activate it. Click [red]*Move worker*[/red]. [blue][tip] There are 2 modules you don't activate, so your worker will effectively block the constructor for the rest of the round, unless it can be bumped.[/blue]1move_worker_to_built_module

ScribalThe *Medical Bay* allows us to pay 1 component, from our supply, for 2 components. Let's pay with the [red]*leaves component*[/red].1player_board_96564609

ScribalNow, we can select any of the 4 components. I didn't actually want to get rid of the *leaves*, so click [red]*Leaves*[/red] to get it back.1select_component_leaves

ScribalFor the second one, click [red]*Tentacles*[/red].1select_component_tentacles

ScribalOur opponent sent their worker to the *Splicing Lab* and gave that worker *brains*. We'll cover what each of the components do as they are used. I think it's time we upgrade one of our workers.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalSelect our worker and place it in the [red]*Splicing Lab*[/red].2chs_splicing_lab

ScribalClick on the [red]*tentacles*[/red] in our supply to add it to our worker.1chs_worker_body_3

ScribalNormally, a worker can have up to 2 components attached to them. They don't need to match, but if you have matching components, it does slightly change the way they work. We don't have another *tentacles* component, so click the [red]*leaves*[/red] in our supply.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalWe've fully upgraded this worker, so click [red]*Done*[/red].1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalOur opponent went to the *Genetics Vat* and purchased a *tentacles* component for 2 coins. If they'd had 5 coins, they could have gotten 2 *tentacle* components. If their worker had *tentacle* components attached, they could have gotten 2 food per *tentacle* component, instead of buying more. [blue][tip] The *Claw Shop, Academy*, and *Seed Repository* all work the same way.[/blue]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalThat ends the placement phase of the first round. Now, everyone that placed a worker in the *Splicing Lab* will be able to place it in the station, so we'll finally get to see those upgraded workers in action! Step 30/581archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalOur opponent placed their worker in the *Boiler Room* which refilled the Reactor. Their worker has a *brain* component, so they received 2 points for it. They also received 1 point for the bonus displayed on the second empty spot in the *Reactor*. [blue][tip] When a worker with a *brain* component is placed on a module with victory points, it will also get that many points.[/blue]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalHere you can see all of the possible rewards when filling the *Reactor*. ScribalWe can't currently afford any of the modules available to us in the *Reactor*. Our [red]*Starting Resources*[/red] tile has another use. Once per game, we can discard it to discard as many modules as we want from the *Reactor* and refill it. Click our [red]*Starting Resources*[/red] tile to flush the reactor.3chs_module_interact_25

ScribalWe can't afford any of these modules, so click each of them from left to right and then click continue.1chs_module_interact_4

ScribalThe *Reactor* as been completely refilled, but we can't afford any of those either. [blue][tip] Out of the 40 modules in the game, there are 9 that cost 2 coins and 1 that has a cost equal to the round number, any of which we would have been able to buy.[/blue]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalThat's okay. I wasn't actually going to have you build a module anyway. I just wanted you to see how to flush the *Reactor*. Instead, click on the [red]*Laboratory*[/red] so we can research! [blue][tip] The left most worker in the *Splicing Lab* is already active, so we don't need to select it.[/blue]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalWe will need to select a component to detach from our worker to increase a research level. In the *Laboratory*, we can only detach one component. Click on the bottom component, the *tentacles*, and watch the right side of our player board.1chs_worker_head_3

ScribalWe've advanced to the second research tier and now we can select a perk. Click continue and then scroll down for the next box.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalPerks are either additional worker placement spaces that only you can use, or they modify a rule of the game, such as letting 1 worker have 3 components. Each of them has an end game scoring condition. The left and the middle perk should be easy to understand at this point in the tutorial.2chs_perks_item_10

ScribalInstead of trying to explain the right perk, I think it'll make more sense after you finish the tutorial and encounter it in your game.3chs_perks_item_11

ScribalCurrently, the *Zoning Board*, which is an additional worker placement space, looks like the best option for us. Click [red]*Zoning Board*[/red].4chs_perks_item_10

ScribalThere are 8 levels of research. The third and fifth will give you an additional worker. Second, fourth, and sixth all provide *Perks*. The seventh will give you 2 *Components* and the eighth gives you 8 points. If you increase your research from there, you'll earn the rewards from the eighth level again.1chs_tentacles_zone_80606858

Scribal[blue][tip] If you acquire a new worker while placing spliced workers, you will be able to place it, but not in the *Splicing Lab*.[/blue]2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalIt's time to place our last worker and I just realized that I told you in the beginning we needed to be able to feed our workers at the end of the round, but we don't have any food. We don't have enough coins to buy a module to get food that from it, or a placement bonus. I guess it's a good thing our last spliced worker has *Claws*. Click on [red]*Hydroponics*[/red] to get some food!3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalA single *Claws* component allows us to bump an opponent's worker with 0 or 1 attached components from the board. If we'd had 2 *Claw* components, we would be able to bump an opponent's worker that had 2 components attached to it. [blue][tip] Bumped workers go to the Worker's Lounge and the player can collect 1 food or 1 coin. It is also a valid worker placement spot.[/blue]1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalThe round is ending and we are currently in the feeding phase. Our first worker has the *leaves* component on it which, depending on your perspective, means it can photosynthesize food or it eats leaves it grows. Either way, it doesn't need food. ScribalIf it had 2 *leaves* components, it would be so good at photosynthesis it produces 2 food to feed other workers, which is a totally normal sentence.2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalOur next 2 workers ate the food we just collected, but we didn't have food for our last worker. We have to choose a component to detach. The component goes back into the supply, not back to our player board. Click the [red]*leaves*[/red] on our first worker. [blue][tip] If you don't have components to detach, you'll lose 2 points for every worker you can't feed.[/blue]3chs_worker_body_wrap_4

ScribalIt's round 2 and our opponent is still the first player. There are a few things I need to cover before we finish this tutorial.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalThe first person to place a worker on *Command Hub A* will be the first player for the next round. They will also receive points for every worker their opponents have placed that are on tiles with a victory point value. If that worker has 2 *brain* components, they would also get points for all of their placed workers.2chs_hex_interact_Main_4_5

ScribalCommand Hub B is available from round 3. Placing a worker there gives points for already placed workers, but does not change the start player. [blue][tip] Start player does not change unless someone places a worker in Command Hub A.[/blue]3archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalAt the start of round 3 and 5, every player earns a research level and 3 more perks are dealt. If multiple players would collect perks from this research level, that is resolved in turn order starting with the start player. There will never be fewer than 3 perks available. From Round 3, points for building a module are doubled. In round 5, they are tripled.4archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalUnfortunately, we didn't get to see the *tentacles* component in action. *Cosmoctopus* is very sad because it loves tentacles. A worker with a *tentacles* component will collect an extra coin or food when collecting those items. A worker with 2 *tentacle* components would also collect an extra component when collecting a component. Instead of 1 *leaves* component, it would get 2.5archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalWhen we flushed the *reactor*, all of those modules went to the discard pile. There is a module that will let you build from the discard.6chs_module_interact_4

ScribalComponents are limited to 7 regardless of player count. If you try to collect a component and one isn't available, you'll get 2 points instead. After the fifth round, end game scoring is calculated. Perks are scored. You'll receive 1 point for every 2 food you have remaining, 1 point for every 3 coins, and 2 points for every component, either attached or in your supply.7archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

ScribalWhen configuring a table, you'll be able to chose Side A or B of the player board. This tutorial was built with Side A. If you choose Side B, you'll have 1 worker with an attached component that matches your player color, and rewards for the research track change. You'll also get a specific power.
